Attendance

Absence from School

Full attendance at school is essential for both academic and social development, however we understand that there are times where absences are unavoidable.

  • If your child is absent due to illness or injury please notify the school, either via telephone or Parentmail, by 9:30am. On return to school, your child should bring in a note explaining their absence.
  • If your child has a medical or dental appointment, please inform the school office in advance of the appointment. If the appointment takes place during the school day, an adult must collect the child from the school office – children will not be permitted to leave school alone.

Absence from school is divided into two kinds: authorised and unauthorised. Part of data reporting requires schools to publish statistics showing the level of unauthorised absence. Therefore, it is important that you inform school if your child is not going to be in to avoid the absence being recorded as unauthorised.

Holidays and other absences

Family holidays should be arranged in the school holiday periods to ensure regular and consistent attendance at school. Requests for holiday during term time can be submitted in exceptional circumstances and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Absence request forms are available from the school office and must be submitted to the Executive Principal at least 14 days before the period of absence.

Absence request forms should also be submitted for religious holidays and observances. Where possible, other absence requests should be avoided during school time, however any requests made will also be on a case-by-case basis.

Please note that all unauthorised holidays taken may result in a Penalty Notice being issued by the Local Authority.
